When we decided to open a school near the village of Chakarsi, local people told us that girls in India, and Uttar Pradesh in particular, were far behind in development and had fewer opportunities than boys. Even though these people live in a poor and isolated rural community, they understand that girls’ education is important so, to serve the community's needs, educating girls became our principle focus.
